At Bright Vision Events, we’ve had the privilege of delivering countless unforgettable experiences, so we asked our Managing Director, Ben Hull, which event stands out the most. With years of experience and a passion for creating wow-factor moments, Ben has led our team through everything from high-energy team-building challenges to dazzling conference productions. But one event, in particular, holds a special place in Bright Vision history…
Ben recalls: “Weirdly the one event that sticks out isn’t the biggest event we have ever done, its certainly not the most complex and it certainly wasn’t the most challenging. But I think one of the reasons I have held it so fondly in my mind is the fact that we still work in this venue today, 10 years on and I can remember the launch as if it was yesterday. I also think it was one of those events in my progression as a then production manager that really gave me confidence that I could produce high profile events to the strictest of standards and I could lead a large talented team of technicians over a long project time line.
Back in late 2012 we were selected to provide the complete production of the Center Parcs Woburn launch due to be opened early Summer 2014. When we first visited the site ‘The Venue’ as it is now known wasn’t even a building, I can remember standing in an opening in the trees trying to visualise what the end result would be from only a few architect visuals. Several site visits later, many production meetings and with roughly 18 months having past the event was upon us.
Looking at the solution now makes me smile, nowadays we wouldn’t think twice at delivering a large videowall but back then it wasn’t the most common of solutions. We had over 50 moving lights (again by todays standards nothing spectacular) and we used at the time the most innovative box trussing which allowed us to span the 18m room width with several simple goal post structures without the need for a central support pillar. Even when all the equipment was rigged there was hardly any bow in the truss. It sounds so simple but that length had never been done before so at the time all of these seemingly incremental elements did add up to many calculations. We even had the manufacture provide their own calculations to confirm what we were suggesting for their truss would work.
The show itself was the easy part really, a launch event to the press, high profile speakers and then a celebratory party in the evening. I remember the party being a lot of fun, for the client the big reveal to the press was the really important bit and it allowed everyone to really enjoy the evening. There was a large band, I can’t remember how many piece it was but I wouldn’t be far off saying 30 musicians. We built a stage that has three tiers to accommodate everyone!
It was just one of those jobs that was just brilliant to work on. The client cut no corners allowing us to provide such a slick solution, the finish of the set and stage was fantastic, I had a team of the most talented professionals in the country, from show caller, producer to prompt and all technicians in between it was a brilliant team effort and one I am very proud of.
Whenever I am back onsite I remind everyone, I was the one who produced that show, I think I’ve said it so many times now people just ignore me!”
