Orienteering is an exciting outdoor team building adventure sport which involves walking or running whilst navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass. The aim is to navigate in sequence between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace.
The event starts with an ice breaker to ensure guests learn the very basic in terms of map reading and orienteering. Blindfold cardinal cones come into play to teach the basics of navigation and communication
We then enter the main team Challenge using electronic timing equipment. The group is split into sub teams and have to work out the best way to utilise team members to complete the task the quickest and most accurately as possible. As its all electronically timed, results are immediate, and we can see where the groups have been. The top groups will be those who work best together and don’t necessarily have to be the fittest.
