Remember Dick Dastardly, Muttley & Penelope Pitstop? Well in one of our most popular challenges, teams are tasked with designing and building a working, model car based on those from the TV show.
Using only the equipment available from our “Pit Shop’’. All vehicles must look as close to the originals as well as being “self-propelled” as they cannot be aided by pushing pulling or similar means.
In addition to the ‘engineering’ aspect, aesthetics and similarities to those originals are also important, each member of the team will have an important role to play. This is an exercise in project management, communication, use of resources, and planning. It can also be very funny.
Each team starts with an allocated amount of fun money, which will enable the crews to purchase parts from the Pit Stop Shop, in order to build their wacky racer. Budgets have to be set, plans discussed, & designs settled on.
At the end of the build time, each captain brings the team’s car forward to be assessed for design quality & compliance with all the rules, and then allotted a starting position.
Finally, each wacky racer is off, down the track they go… or not! Some go nowhere, some go backwards, some go forwards then back, but the car that travels the furthest is declared the winner.
