Dragon Boating

A Dragon Boat is a thirty or forty foot canoe-like vessel with an ornately carved dragon’s head and tail, a steerer in the stern keeping the boat on course, a drummer beating time and up to 10/14 people sitting in pairs ready to paddle.

Dragon Boat Racing is an ancient Chinese tradition with over 2,000 years of history. A dragon boat event can take place on any piece of placid water over a distance of approximately 150m. Between 2 and 6 boats are usually raced at a time depending on the number of participants, the size of the water space, the time available & your objectives.

Dragon boating is not only an exhilarating and enjoyable sport but also an excellent exercise in outdoor team building.  It is essential for dragon boat teams to work together; making use of each member’s individual strengths in order to ensure that their team delivers the best possible performance in their races.

The winning team will be the team that successfully works together; communicating with each other, with the help of the drummer, to ensure that they work as a unified team.

A superb collaborative event which gets teams working together, enjoying each other’s company and at its core is immensely enjoyable.

How it works

Anyone taking part must be capable of swimming (you don’t need to be an Olympic standard swimmer so don’t worry!) but we provide all necessary safety equipment including buoyancy aids, safety boat and on shore medic.

The event is delivered in a number of heats with the top teams competing in a grand finale at the end to take home the glory.

With no previous experience required, everyone has an equal chance of success and is kept occupied at all times. Colourful, dynamic and exciting.
