Raft Building focuses on group dynamics, communication skills & leadership. The group need to face the challenge of building rafts out of limited resources. They must work together on all stages from carrying their materials to designing, building and finally paddling their rafts.
Using creativity, teamwork, practical thinking and tactile skills, the team are required to design and build a raft with the equipment supplied.
Once equipped with buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles, the teams are given around 30 minutes to design their raft.
A selection of materials is at hand, including plastic barrels, long poles and short poles (plus, of course, not forgetting the all important rope!). Of course the raft isn’t considered complete until a Pirate Flag is flying high over it!
The real test to any raft is time, how long will it last? Still, don’t worry if yours earns the name “Titanic”: the safety marshals will be close by to rescue you and what remains of the raft!
